And I had locked down the camera on a tripod to shoot an HDR form a few different exposures. Since it was extremely harsh midday summer sun, it was basically impossible to capture all the detail in the shadow of the arch and the detail of the clouds. I of course closed the aperture (almost) as low as it could (since it's generally not recommended to shoot at your lens's limits). I took a total of 6 exposures to get all that detail to mimic the dynamic range that the human eye would see there in person.
Then I took those files and processed it in photomatix pro to combine the photos, and finished with some enhancing in photoshop.
